Fabiana Rivas Frangos is an artist and storyteller whose work exists at the intersection of fine art and narrative design. Born into a family of artists and classically trained from childhood, she later graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in the Business Administration of Graphic Design. She views illustration as the natural bridge between these two worlds—combining the technical discipline of design with the fluid, tactile soul of fine art.
For Fabiana, creating art is an act of immersion. She paints to inhabit the worlds she creates, inviting viewers and readers to lose themselves within her brushstrokes. Her aesthetic is a conversation with the masters of light; drawing from the luminous techniques of Sorolla and Sargent and the atmospheric depth of Henri Le Sidaner, she avoids rigid line art in favor of a painterly, “color-under-color” vitality. In the realm of illustration, she is deeply influenced by the mid-century charm of Mary Blair, Adrienne Adams, and the Provensens.
Beyond the canvas, her narrative voice is shaped by the wit and whimsy of masters like Tomi Ungerer, Arnold Lobel, and Roald Dahl. Whether she is developing a picture book or drafting her latest middle-grade graphic novel, her goal is to capture the "spirit of discovery" that makes a story feel like home.
Fabiana’s work has been recognized internationally for its imaginative depth. She is a finalist in Imaginative Realism for the Art Renewal Center (ARC) and has been featured in Southwest Art Magazine’s Acrylic & Watercolor and Acrylic Showcase editions. Her figurative work is also published in the North Light Editorial collection, Acrylic Works.
When she isn’t at her drafting table, Fabiana is likely at her sewing machine. A dedicated seamstress, she carries on a personal tradition of hand-making a new dress for every birthday. She lives and works in Caracas alongside her husband and shares her studio with two very quiet assistants: a red-foot tortoise and a green iguana.
